Since the bloke upstairs got a cat the birds stay away from the garden.

Sx, I am rather fond of curlews. I was wandering around Swords Estuary with my family a couple of months back, doing a bit of bird-spotting. My sister had brought bread to feed the swans (who in my opinion, have an unpleasant sense of entitlement) Anyway, she was too ill to get out of the car, so she asked me to feed them for her. Curlews were flying overhead and calling out. It's mesmerising. I pause to watch them and a swan bit my hand in impatience.

I live in the countryside. All birds are noisy and inconsiderate arseholes who have no respect for human sleeping patterns.
During the daytime, however, you'd have to go a long way to beat the sound of a flock of passing Curlew.
This video (start at 4mins in) doesn't really do them justice, when there's a decent number of them the sound of their 'whistle' in flight is quite haunting.

You know what nursey... I was walking through Peckham and stopped to watch and listen to a blackbird singing in a tree. No punchline. I'm quite serious. Lovely.
I like this thread.

The robin is the first bird to pipe up in the morning , I have to get up early in my job , even in darkest winter , 5 in the morning , they sing above your head in a bush. The carrion crow is the last to bed, will almost go to roost in the dark . Nurse, I'm lucky where I live, I see kites, woodpeckers , yellow wagtails . . Allsorts .

On my own, with plenty of good reading material, and another day off work tomorrow? You're right. It doesn't get much better than this for me. It's lovely.
